As many of you are aware, we face daunting rises in COVID-19 case counts, hospitalizations, and deaths in most of the country.  To help combat COVID-19, we are issuing a call to action for the metro Atlanta community to facilitate the collection of COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma (CCP).

CCP is a treatment option that is safe and may be effective when given as early as possible to hospitalized patients with COVID-19. In fact, more than 500,000 Americans have received this treatment and physicians continue to request CCP for their patients.

The nationwide increase in COVID-19 infections has caused a massive demand for CCP.  That demand is now regularly 25,000 to 30,000 units per week, and with increasing demand, it may become more challenging to support the need.

The CCP collection process is very similar to the blood donation process and the blood collectors follow strict guidelines for safety, sanitation, and social distancing.  The period between Thanksgiving and January 31 is traditionally the lowest period for the donation of blood products.  This year, this period also overlaps our Nation’s need for CCP along with a national whole blood shortage.

If you have recovered from COVID-19, help your community fight back by going to to identify the closest location for you to donate.  In addition to social distancing, wearing a face covering, and practicing good hygiene—donating CCP is another way that we, as a community, can help to fight back against COVID-19.  We appreciate your support in this important effort.
